We stayed 5 nights at a mobile campsite near to Deception Valley in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, which is one of the largest protected areas in Africa and one of the less-visited national parks in Botswana. There is no permanent water and so the inhabitants of the CKGR generally need to be able to survive in a waterless environment. Although game can be sparse in places, there is a lot to see here with only a little patience, including most of the big and medium-sized predators in good numbers and large numbers of Bat-eared Foxes, Meerkats and Honey Badgers. Five nights barely allowed us to scratch the surface and we didn't travel very far from our base at Deception Valley. The high temperatures and constant threat of thunderstorms (rain tends to come quickly, almost out of nowhere, in very localised, violent storms) helped to discourage us from getting too adventurous.
